Atom Drop Deck 41-Inch Longboard
No products found.
If you’re a beginner, believe me when I say this is the best overall board for the money.
It comes with a very strong and flexible deck, nice trucks with good turning, and the included wheels hug the ground and is smooth like butter. (It handles beautifully!). The flex is enough to dampen the bumpiness of uneven sidewalks.
As being built for the beginning level, its deck is lowered in the center of gravity, which means extra stability while cruising and that you’ll have the confidence to bomb anything.
For those who are wondering exactly how it rides, it rolls really smoothly and fast. Handling cracks and little rocks is no problem. Besides, its max weight capacity is up to 250 pounds.
If you also want a skateboard for the pump and carve of surfing without spending too much money in the process, I recommend this longboard, too.
Pros
- Allow you to keep balance and stable better – lowered, durable deck
- Ride smoothly – Wide-Lip 70x51mm SHR urethane wheels & good flex in the deck design
- High endurance – weight capacity up to 250 pounds
- Versatile – for beginners, cruising, or the pump and carve of surfing
Cons
- Bearings need replacing
- Not glide super long

Atom Drop Through 40 Inch Longboard
No products found.
The Atom Drop Through 40 Inch Longboard is probably one of their bestsellers. It’s a little more expensive than the other ones but usually out of stock.
From my experience, this longboard is totally worth the extra.
Sturdy is the word I would use to describe it, all thanks to the deck length as well as the materials of other components.
The wheels stay well on the ground. Their size, as with most longboards, handles cracks well as long as you’re going fast enough. A good thing is there’s no chance of wheel bite at all.
The board is on the stiff side, but for beginners, this is a good thing because it helps them hold stability more easily. It can also turn quite well if going for a full turn.
Regardless, nice flex, good acceleration, and super sticky wheels. It rides smoothly and carves well. The bearings are great. The biggest thing I noticed is that it holds speed phenomenally well.
Although it isn’t a downhill board, it can keep a good speed range of 20-30mph, which is amazing.
Pros
- Sturdy – good deck length & high-quality materials of all components
- Ride smoothly and handle cracks excellently – wide and soft wheels
- Retain the speed consistently
- No wheel bite & turn quite well
Cons
- Colors or even the rubber of your shoes are easily contaminated by the deck’s grip tape as it’s super-sticky

Atom Drop Deck 39 Inch Longboard
No products found.
The Atom Drop Deck 39 Inch Longboard is specifically designed for heavy riders.
On a scale of 1-4 (4 being the stiffest), this board is a 4. It can hold a max load of 300 pounds without letting you touch the floor just because it’s too low.
The style of this board is also quite versatile. Its drop deck allows you to glide, cruise, carve, and even a bit downhill (as long as the bearings are appropriately changed) if wanted.
Lots of customers praised this longboard for its sharp turns and good shock-absorbing wheels. If you’re also a snowboarder, the smooth-riding experience of this longboard will definitely remind you a lot. Excellent grip tape as well.
One big bonus for female riders or teenagers is it’s not as heavy as the other Atom drop-down board, which I have tested.
The design is truly aesthetically pleasing. For around $120, this is a fantastic longboard.
Pros
- Stylish and aesthetically pleasing – nice graphics
- Good for heavy riders – 300 pounds in max loading weight
- Ride super-smoothly – good shock-absorbing wheels
- Ideal for female longboard riders and teenagers – lightweight
Cons
- The bushings are a little soft

- The turning joints need more lubrication

Atom Freeride/Downhill 37″ Longboard
No products found.
If you’re finding a good longboard for freeriding and downhill riding, look no further.
The Atom Freeride/Downhill 37″ Longboard features a little bit longer wheelbase than usual, which is about 28 inches, so you don’t get speed wobbles as easily. It’s also a good beginner board due to the W concave deck shape, stiff trucks, and wide, soft wheels.
For those who intend to use this longboard for gliding, I would say it’s slightly difficult and needs time to get used to because of the long wheelbase.
That said, the wheels are good for gliding.
A notable thing I’ve found in this unit is the double kick which refers to each end of the board having a slight upward angle. Thanks to this addition, you can use it for cruising and practicing tricks as well.
Pros
- Perfect for freeriding and downhill riding – 28” wheelbase
- Stable, lowered center of gravity, and balance – W concave deck shape, soft wheels, and stiff trucks.
- Great for practicing tricks – double kick
Cons
- Not really for gliding
Product Specs
- Deck: Stiff 9-ply Maple laminate – subtle 4mm drop – w-concave – slight double kick – photo heat transfer graphic
- Trucks: Grade 8 knurled Navigator kingpins
- Bearing: Rubber-shielded ABEC 9 with high-speed lubricant
- Wheels: Atom freewheels – 70mm diameter x 42mm wide – 82a
- Weight: 8.8 pounds
- Highlight features: 28” Wheelbase; W concave deck shape; double kick
Atom Pin-Tail Sc 49-Inch Longboard
No products found.
For cruising, the Atom Pin-Tail Sc 49-Inch Longboard shreds.
Built with wide-lip wheels and a pintail design, it rides smoothly over small cracks and pumps to remain at an excellent speed. Per kick, the board can keep approximately 60 feet for a fast and steady cruising experience.
Even compared to some smaller 38″ longboards, it cruises much farther and is much faster.
As others would suggest, loosening the trucks for better cruising; otherwise, such stiffness is ideal for beginners to start with.
Long story short, this huge board is a great choice for cruising at a reasonable price if that’s also what you are looking for. A rare version with decent bearings in comparison to other ATOM boards because instead of Abec-5 bearings, it came with Abec-9.
Pros
- Retain fast speed excellently – wide-lip wheels
- Control the directions of the board easily – pintail design
- Decent bearings compared to other Atom versions – ABEC-9 bearings
Cons
- Poor quality painting
Product Specs
- Deck: 49-inch Full maple laminate deck with pin-tail
- Trucks: Reverse King Pin (RKP) longboard trucks
- Bearing: ABEC 9 bearings with high-speed lubricant
- Wheels: Wide-lip 70×51-millimeter super high rebound (SHR) urethane wheels
- Weight: 10.6 pounds
- Highlight features: Decent wheels and bearings; wide-lip wheels; pintail design
Atom 39″, Woody Longboard
No products found.
If you need a longboard that can survive the weather changes, rocks, and cracked roads, this is a wonderful selection.
It is sturdy, heavy, and yet, still more lightweight than the MBS to give you better flex and control, especially for young riders on the street. It takes beating like a champ that even on dirt trails, it still retains its structural integrity, to my surprise.
One of the most notable components is the wheels. They give me a crazy sense of confidence to ride over things I used to think would put my face on the ground.
It’s sturdy and durable enough to conquer wicked curb cuts, grassy knolls, small bumps, sticks, rocks, and gravel, with no problems.
Wheel bite isn’t an issue, either, and the drop deck makes it super-easy to get your center of gravity stable. Great bearings, too.
For cruising, the stock bearings are good enough, but if you intend to use them for downhill riding or anything that requires faster speed, change them to reds, and you’ll be completely satisfied. Last, the grip is also amazing, and the design is very attractive.
Pros
- Sturdy and endurable – sturdy deck construction and all-terrain wheels
- Easy to get your center of gravity stable – drop deck
Cons
- Only come with 4 washers, not 8
- Require more pushes
Product Specs
- Deck: Maple-lam drop deck
- Trucks: Reverse kingpin – 50-degree base – 7-inch aluminum hangers – heat-treated CrMo axles – grade 8 kingpins
- Bearing: Rubber-shielded ABEC 9 with high-speed lubricant
- Wheels: MBS 100mm x 65mm all-terrain wheels cast with 78a super-high-rebound urethane
- Weight: 10 pounds
- Highlight features: MBS 100mm x 65mm all-terrain wheels; maple-lam drop deck
Atom Drop Through 39 Inch Longboard
No products found.
For young riders, girls, or short people who want a perfect longboard for freestyling and freeriding, just add this Atom 39” to your wish list.
It has a great asymmetric kicktail on each end of the deck to deliver a good mix of skateboard/longboard.
In combination with the 70mm Freewheels and a stable drop-through deck, it is ideal for freeriding/freestyling beginners. An extra compliment for the wheels due to their decent durability. They aren’t scratched up when I roll them through a rocky street.
It’s also lightweight – only 6.8 pounds, which is easy to maneuver.
For gliding, you might want to change the wheels for better speed retention.
Pros
- Easy to maneuver and transport – the weight of 6.8 pounds
- Ideal for freeriding/freestyling – features great asymmetric kicktail longboard trucks, a drop-through deck, and 70mm freewheels.
- Durable and handle abuse phenomenally well
Cons
- No instructions provided
- Poor quality graphics
- The holes for the bolts holding on the trucks are not parallel to the board direction, making them a bit out of alignment.
Product Specs
- Deck: Full maple laminate with photo heat transfer graphic
- Trucks: Reverse King Pin – 50-degree base – 180mm hangers
- Bearing: ABEC 9 with high-speed lubricant
- Wheels: Atom FREEWHEELS – 70mm diameter – 42mm wide – 82A – SHR
- Weight: 6.8 pounds
- Highlight features: Weight of 6.8 pounds; Full maple laminate deck; 70mm Freewheels; drop-through deck
Atom Lowrider Longboard
No products found.
Aside from cruising around town to get from one place to another, the Atom Lowrider Longboard is my recommendation for big hills or downhill riding (25 mph or more gets it a little speed wobble).
It looks cool, runs smoothly, and keeps consistent speed with little effort. Compared to the Loaded Pintail, it rides better and has a great feel. One big bonus is that it has less of a stroke which makes it much more comfortable and faster.
Regardless, the board is praised for ease of turnability, oversized semi-soft wheels, and low deck height, which makes it a great beginner board. With it, you can easily maneuver and keep a balance to cruise around.
If you want to start this hobby without making a big investment, it is a perfect option.
The last bonus is it comes all assembled.
Pros
- Good speed retention and roll smoothly – oversized semi-soft wheels and the low deck height
- Easy to turn – deliver a good flex
Cons
- The bushings are cheap
Product Specs
- Deck: New Pintail 9-ply Maple deck design
- Trucks: Standard Skate
- Bearing: ABEC 5
- Wheels: 70-millimeter/78A
- Weight: 8.6 pounds
- Highlight features: 100% pre-assembled; oversized semi-soft wheels; low deck height
Atom Kicktail Longboard
No products found.
Built to give minimal flex compared to the more expensive boards, the Atom Kicktail Longboard is great for giving you a bounce during carves.
It has 78A wheels which are extremely hard, so they hold speed perfectly, in addition to a concave deck shape that allows your feet to be placed in a very balanced position.
In turn, these wheels don’t absorb any shock, which means you will feel vibrations from the road, but not as much as on traditional skateboard wheels. So, I would say this longboard is a good choice for skateparks or smooth surfaces.
The product is also easy-to-ride enough for beginners, although its wheels and bearings are a little tight. Don’t worry; some adjustments fixed that.
Another benefit of a minimal flex longboard is its great endurance for hefty loading weight. In other words, the boards around this price range are always pretty stiff, which is ideal for heavier riders.
Take note that it’s not big enough for those of you 6′ and over.
Pros
- Ideal for carving or heavy riders – stiff deck with minimal flex and hard wheels
- Keep balance better – the concave deck shape
- Hold speed perfectly
- Easy to ride
Cons
- Not ideal for tall riders
- Wheels and bearings are a little tight
- Poor shock absorbance
Product Specs
- Deck: Maple Laminate Deck
- Trucks: 8.5 inches Aluminum Trucks
- Bearing: Abec 5 Bearings
- Wheels: 65mm / 78A Urethane Wheels
- Weight: 8.2 pounds
- Highlight features: 78A wheels; concave deck shape with kicktail;
Atom Drop Through 41 Inch Longboard
No products found.
For pro riders who want to practice tricks, I greatly suggest the Atom Drop Through 41 Inch Longboard.
It makes sharp turns like a breeze and is much better than the fishtail boards. Normally, if the turn is too sharp, the fishtail boards will hit the wheels, which brings the board to a complete stop. But this new design isn’t a thing, so it is really easy to do tricks with.
On a scale from 1 to 5 (5 is the most flexible), I would say about a 3 1/2 because it’s pretty flexible but not flimsy. If you’re a relatively heavy guy, don’t worry about trying this out.
The board is very easy to control and maneuver. It is a great board for beginners, but don’t expect to be able to slide on this unless you have serious skills.
Like most other Atom versions, you don’t have to assemble the board by yourself because it comes fully assembled. But I recommend buying a tool to adjust the wheels and trucks.
Pros
- Prevent wheel bite effectively and make sharp turns – Unique perimeter shape
- Good for beginners – easy to control and maneuver
Cons
- Trucks are prone to scratch
- Bushings are too soft
Product Specs
- Deck: Full maple laminate deck
- Trucks: Reverse King Pin (RKP) longboard trucks
- Bearing: ABEC 9 bearings.
- Wheels: 70mm wheels
- Weight: 7.8 pounds
- Highlight features: Unique perimeter shape; reverse King Pin (RKP) longboard trucks; Ultra-low-riding longboard
Atom Pin-Tail 39-Inch Longboard
No products found.
The Atom Pin-Tail 39-Inch Longboard is great for city cruising and also ideal for beginners.
It dips quite a bit and is extremely stable to ride. The deck and other components are decently sturdy, especially the trucks. Although you might need to adjust them a little bit, they aren’t easy to get scratch like other counterparts at this low price point.
The wheels are of good quality with great bearings. Why “great”? Because while longboard shops usually give you standard Abec 3 bearings, this board comes with Abec 5.
Turning can be a tiny bit hard at times, but that’s just beginners’ luck.
Despite the sturdiness, the board is still lightweight enough to make carrying it with you easy.
In a nutshell, I would suggest this longboard for anyone starting out longboarding and college students as a fun mode of transportation.
Pros
- High value for the price – high-quality components and deck
- Easy to transport and maneuver – super-lightweight
- Great bearings – ABEC-5 bearings for the price
Cons
- The bushings are terrible
Product Specs
- Deck: Maple Laminate Deck
- Trucks: 8.5 inches Aluminum Trucks
- Bearing: Abec 5 Bearings
- Wheels: 65mm / 78A Urethane Wheels
- Weight: 1 pound
- Highlight features: Maple Laminate Deck; Abec 5 Bearings; 1-pound weight
The Ultimate Guide To Choosing the Best Atom Longboard In 2024
Riding Styles
In the Atom longboarding realm, there comes a variety of riding styles, which results in different styles of longboards to match.
And your riding style depends mostly on where you live and ride. For example, there are many chances that you will hit flats, hills, and everything in between if you live in the mountains.
There are four common riding styles available in Atom longboards:
Freestyle Longboarding – which involves multiple riding techniques like dancing, regular and goofy riding, board tricks, and sliding. This style of the longboard is ideal for riders of all levels – beginners, intermediate, and pros.
Freeride Longboarding – is commonly suggested for expert riders because it requires much board comfort and skilled control at high speed.
Downhill Longboarding – similar to the freeride, it is for pro riders. This style of longboard means you’ll bomb hills as quickly as possible while keeping control. You’ll find yourself in a tucked or crouching position on the longboard to increase stability and for reduced wind resistance.
Carving & Cruising Longboarding – commonly for beginners and intermediate riders because it’s used for pushing on flat ground for long-distance, ripping through the quad on your way to class, or carving down gradually sloped streets.
Deck Styles
This feature decides four things:
- How easy it is to push on flat ground
- How easy it is to foot-brake
- How stable is the board is
As a basic rule of thumb, the lower the longboard is to the ground, the lesser the center of gravity, which results in less effort and more stability while foot-braking or pushing.
There are two common Atom deck styles – drop deck and drop-through.
The biggest difference between them is drop deck longboards feature the deck dropped to sit hugely below the truck level, while the drop-through features trucks mounted through the deck.
From that point, the drop-deck longboarding is perfect for freeriding and downhill riding, and the drop-through is more versatile. Aside from being built for freeriding and downhill riding, it is also for long-distance riding or commuting.
Bonus:
Another deck style of Atom longboards is the kicktail. They are commonly attached on both ends of the deck for the purpose of helping you hop curbs, perform tricks, or make quick turns easily.
Longboard Length
The length of Atom longboards is vast, and you can’t just go for one based on your preference. It must be carefully considered due to the rider’s height and riding style.
A common rule is the shorter the board, the lighter and more maneuverable it will be. However, it also leads to the fact that the less stable the board is. If you are a beginner, this table will help you find out a good one more simply:
Longboard Style | Longboard Length | Rider’s Height |
Freestyle & freeride | < or = 5’10” | 38-42″ |
> 5’10” | >42” | |
Downhill riding | < or = 5’10” | 35-42″ |
> 5’10” | >42” | |
Cruising & carving | < or = 5’10” | 32-40″ |

What Types of Atom Longboards Exist?
There are three main types of Atom longboards that exist – drop-through, drop deck, and pintail & kicktail.
Is Atom a good longboard brand?
Yes, it is.
Atom costs nearly ½ of most other longboard brands, whereas it gives you superb quality products. The brand was established in 2005, and with over 15 years of expertise in the industry, it knows a thing or two about manufacturing high-quality, functional boards for specific needs.
How do I Choose a longboard?
The choice of longboards depends on several features:
- Your riding styles
- Deck shapes, materials, and styles
- Length and wheelbase
For more information, you can consider my buying guide above.
Are longboards better than skateboards?
For beginners, skateboards and longboards are both good. But in extensive research and comparison, I find the longboard is better because it’s specifically designed for cruising with extended length for extra stability during the ride.
Not to say that it comes in softer wheels to cruise more easily.
Conclusion
While Atom is a reliable brand, and its longboards are quite affordable to buy, choosing a good one is not an easy task. The first step I recommend is considering your own needs and budget. Next, consider your riding style and the quality of other components.
