Movado is a watch brand that was founded as LAI Ditescheim & Freres SA in 1881 in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, by Léopold Achille Isidore Ditesheim. A gentleman by the name of Gedalio Grinberg purchased the company in 1983.
His son, Efraim Grinberg, is currently the Chairman and CEO of Movado Group, Inc. In 2006, Movado excitingly celebrated its 125th year of watchmaking.
The brand heavily promotes the Museum Watch which was designed by the American designer Nathan George Horwitt in 1947. It was first manufactured by Vacheron & Constantin-Le Coultre Watches, Inc. but Movado produced an unauthorized version in 1948, copying the original design.
The Museum of Modern Art in 1960 loved it so much that they added it to their permanent collection. Movado and Horwitt settled on an agreement of $29,000 or approximately $130,000 in today’s dollars for the design. When he passed away in 1975, the company promoted the watch more in homage to him and his incredible creation.
Hovering around $500 million in annual revenue, the brand has seen incredible levels of success and that’s due to its quality and service. If you’re looking for a new wrist piece, these are the best Movado watches for men and some styling ideas.

Styling Movado Watches
Movado watches are classy, sophisticated, and timeless. With this in mind, we should craft our outfits to exude these traits as well. Formal, business-casual, and executive styles should be on our radar.
Think blazers, suits, chinos, oxford shirts, and quality shoes. Here are a few outfit ideas you can use for inspiration when styling a Movado watch.
Blazer, Chinos, & Loafers
This is attire that will look great all year round. A blue blazer with khaki chinos and brown shoes specifically is fantastic for the spring and summer.
Mix and match colors accordingly to what you have with these pieces and you’ll throw together a very posh look. You could wear this while you’re out running errands, spending time with friends, or participating in leisurely activities.
Suit jackets you should be able to close without the jacket over-tightening. The sleeves should land on your wrist bone so some dress shirt can show from underneath. It also gives your watch some room to shine.
Chino pants don’t have to be super slim if you appreciate a relaxed-fitting more. They are one of the pants in which a bit of slack is completely acceptable. Wear a belt that matches the color of your shoes and you’ll have the little details in check.

Suit, Dress Shirt, & Derbys

Nothing matches a Movado watch more than a well-tailored suit, quality dress shirt, and Derbys. This is excellent attire for work, meeting with clients, and formal occasions.
It’s an outfit that states confidence, wealth, and luxury. Navy, charcoal, and gray are the go-to suit colors. Focus on attaining a fit that contributes to your body’s silhouette for a streamlined appearance.

Other Styling Tips for Watches:
- Match the band color to your shoes and belt. If your watch has a brown leather band, your shoes and belt should be brown as well.
- If you are sporting a silver or gold watch, other accents like bits on loafers or cuff links should be the same.
- Simple dress watches should be strictly for formal attire. Chronograph and two-tone watches are ideal for business-casual situations.
Is Movado a Good Watch Brand?
There are many elements that make up a great watch brand. This includes style, quality of materials, craftsmanship, movement, comfort, and many other traits. So, how does Movado stack up? Let’s see what some customers had to say.
These Movado reviews are from Bestbuy for one of their digital watches. Both customers have some critiques about the watch, but overall really enjoy it and what it has to offer.
Let’s take a look at their Better Business Bureau page, as well.
As of right now, Movado is not accredited by the BBB, nor do they have a good customer review score — sitting at one star out of five. Furthermore, they have 15 customer complaints. Their BBB rating is the best you can get, though.
The BBB rating takes licensing, advertising, and many other important aspects of business into consideration. As a company, Movado appears to be doing good, but lacking in the customer service department.
Is Movado Swiss Made?
The term “Swiss made” implies that a watch received its final inspection and assembly in Switerzland. The movement must be Swiss, as well, but all of the other components don’t technically have to be. So, yes, Movado is a Swiss-made watch. Some of their components have been known to be manufactured in China and Hong Kong, however.
Are Movado Watches Real Gold?
Only some of Movado’s watches feature real gold, including 14k dials and bands. There are some gold watches they sell that are actually gold-plated stainless steel. It is clearly outlined in the description of the watch, so keep a careful eye out of this when shopping.
Are Movado Watches Waterproof?
Every single Movado watch is tested to meet the international water-resistance standards, which are 30 meters. Certain models, which you can find marked on the watch itself, are resistant to much greater depths and pressure. You can see this information from their website.
